One of the present research focuses within the MechatronicSystems.Group (MS.G) is multi-rotor aerial vehicles (MRAVs). To support this research, we're developing a MATLAB GUI for rapid initial MRAV propulsion system sizing. This tool will allow users to input relevant MRAV parameters and generate visualizations and optimisations of key performance metrics. Our goal is to provide insights into MRAV propulsion system sizing and selection.
While existing MRAV propulsion system sizing solutions are effective, they have limitations. They offer restricted functionality for multi-system comparisons and only analyse hover or wide-open throttle operating points, leading to uncertain impedance matching of propulsion systems.
MRAV propulsion system sizing is inherently iterative with open-ended constraints, resulting in numerous viable propulsion system solutions. Our tool will address these challenges by enabling the comparison of all available propulsion system components to identify the optimal configuration.
