JOEY is a tethered marsupial UAV-UGV platform under development at the MechatronicSystems.Group for autonomous navigation in GNSS-denied environments. The Tether Management System (TMS) is the mechatronic subsystem of JOEY that regulates the tether length, tension, azimuth and elevation angles between the UAV and the Voyager UGV.
This vacation work project covers the assembly, integration, and characterisation of the TMS hardware. You will refine SolidWorks models, 3D print custom housings, assemble off-the-shelf components, and perform a test protocol to evaluate tension response, power continuity under rotation, and fairlead behaviour, validating the design before integration with the UGV.
This project is suited to a student with interest in mechatronics.
