The MechatronicSystems.Group (MS.G) is a research group that is based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Established in 2022, the MS.G focuses on the modelling, design and realisation of complex mechatronic systems. The electromechanical nature of these systems requires an intimate knowledge of integrating hardware (mechanical and electrical), software and control systems in order to develop a system into a cohesive whole.
News
- (24/02/25) The MS.G is pleased to welcome to seven new MSc students to our group, namely: Shannon Pitman, Araav Sojen, Mpilo Nxasana, Tony Mwangi, Rivoo Bagchi, Thomas Roomes, and Bakoena Leqele. We are keen to see how their innovative projects unfold!
- (08/02/25) The MS.G recently acquired an 8-camera OptiTrack Motion Capture System. This will enable some exciting research around pose estimation and real-time robotic control and trajectory following. External parties are also able to use the system at a nominal fee.
- (25/10/24) Internal MSc applications for the MS.G are now open. You can view the projects on offer here. Deadline for applications is the 15th of November at 17h00.
- (18/10/24) A number of vacation work projects are currently open for application with the MS.G. Information about the projects, as well as the application form, can be found on the Vac Work page.
- (18/09/24) Zak Meyer recently recently received a pass with distinction for MSc dissertation, titled “Design of a low-cost, vision-based motion capture system for use in rigid-body pose estimation”! More information about the project can be found here.
